Staying Sane
A WordGoddess collab, written in seven minutes flat.
First thing's first - Happy New Year!
Now then. Once upon a time, a long time ago, I wrote an entry about the little things I do, or allow myself, that keep me sane. I figured, in light of the new year (and the fact that I don't have much else to write about), I'd update that list.
- Driving in the truck, singing along to Fleetwood Mac.
- Curling up with a book, uninterrupted, for an hour. Or two. Better yet, not getting out of bed at all, all day, and just reading reading reading.
- Snuggling Oz, and whispering snoofie-snoofies in his ear.
- Taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon.
- Watching an episode of "The Osbornes" (no matter how wigged out my life gets, theirs is always wiggier).
- Watching "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", and reciting along with it line for line. ("I could be The Walrus... I'd still have to bum rides off of people.")
- Balancing the checkbook (I'm odd. It comforts me. Or at least, it makes me stop being anxious over money. Even if we're broke, I at least *know* we're broke).
- My new favorite, drinking Chai Tea.
- Sitting in the sun, as long as it's not July or something. This is Arizona, people.
- A phone conversation with my sister. Or, as they call 'em in Maine, my "sistah".
- Cleaning the entire bedroom top to bottom, then sitting on the bed and pretending like the rest of the house is just as tidy.
- Taking Kye down to the park and tossing the tennis ball for her.
- Delighting in those rare days when I have both a new fitness magazine *and* a new cooking magazine in the mail. Then sitting on the bed with a Coke and reading them cover to cover.
- Washing the sheets, pillow cases, and blankets, then going to sleep in dryer sheet scented heaven.
There it is. Seven minutes of what keeps me sane.
