Today is a good day.

Today is a good day, and I'll tell you why. I'm telecommuting, which although it seems the ka-ka hits the fan on the days that I'm working from home, at least I get to shit-shovel on my couch in my jammies.

I have also managed to construct a quite excellent egg-and-cheese sandwich. It's not as good as Calvin's, much due to the fact that I didn't manage to flip it quite right, and also due to the fact that Calvin has this intuitive talent with spices that I don't even begin to possess. I'm starting to suspect that it's a guy thing. But the sandwich is edible with melted cheesy goodness and a yolk that's just this side of firm, and so I consider my efforts to be successful.

In related news, I TOTALLY HAVE TO get one of these.

I've been e-mailing with Lilly, who has been pestering me (in a good way) to stick to my New Year's revolutions. I worked out despite having a good hair day. She reminds me of our discretionary spending goals when I mention that we have gone/are going out to dinner. And every day that goes by without a new entry being posted, she's right there to remind me that I am lax in my duties. Such a charming, diligent, helpful girl. She and Michael have just over four months left of their contract in the Marines, and then they'll be home, bringing with them three grandsons (Lilly's due sometime around the end of February) for us G-Rents to spoil. It's going to be a crowded house (Isn't that an 80's band? Heh.) for a while, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

Flower is a bitch - which is a turn-around from the personality she seemed to be cultivating back when we first got her. Back then, in their little starter-tank, she was mild and timid, easily stressed by her brother, and content to just hide somewhere. Now, in their vivarium, she's territorial and does everything in her power (waiving her little stick figure arms, bobbing her head) to intimidate Thumper. Thing is, I don't think he's afraid of her. Sure, he gets out of her way when she chases him, but I don't think he finds her three-inch frame any more scary than we do. I'm watching them right now, and she's quite cheesed that Thumper has crossed some imaginary boundary line and has come over to the perch where I have placed their dish of worms. The fact that Flower wasn't even on said perch, but was dangling below it on the vine, seems to have nothing to do with her agitated state. Poor Thumper. All he wants is some breakfast, and she's being an asshole about it.

Whoa. She just made a move at him over the worm dish, and he totally bailed off the edge of the ledge and caught himself halfway down by grabbing, one hand-and-footed, onto another dangling vine. Then he climbed up onto a lower perch, climbed down another vine onto the driftwood over their pond, hopped down and stood in the waterfall to get a drink, then Tarzaan'ed back up another vine. All in about five seconds. At which point Flower high-tailed it (no pun intended) down from the ledge to a favorite perch she likes to occupy, just above the vine Thumper's on. Aaaaand she's back to waiving her little stick figure arms. It looks so funny - with the two toes she's missing it looks like she's rocking out at a concert and making the Evil Fingers.

Note the evil fingers on her right hand

They seem to be at an impasse now. She's glaring down at him, and he's chillin' and hanging out on the vine. Here's a pic I took just a minute ago:

Top - Flower. Bottom - Thumper

I could watch these screwballs for hours. But! There is work to be done and meatloaf to be made and yoga to be yoga'ed and crickets to be bought and DANCE BITCHES CD's TO BE MAILED OUT. That's right, you read me correctly, my fabulous and patient friends. Those of you who requested mix CDs (set of two!) will be receiving them shortly, as they are being sent out today!

Calvin would like me to mention that he has been getting on me, often, to get these out, and that he's ashamed and embarrassed that I've taken this long. It's a supreme lax in my responsibilities as a friend and OLJ-er, and I sincerely apologize. Hopefully you don't feel that it's better never than late, because here they come!
