prev archive next I removed Homesite from my computer at work because of a virus issue. Of course I forgot to re-load it this weekend, so now I'm muddling through this in Notepad. I've almost forgotten how to write html. What a sad, pathetic webmistress I am. High: My project implemented today, and so far (cross fingers here) it seems to be going along without a hitch. Low: Gotta go to school tonight. Getting through work until Wednesday when Susan and the kids arrive. No jokes, but I bought some new clothes at lunch today which always puts me in a good mood. See the title bar on this page, and see if you can guess what's stuck in my head. I was just getting over being sick. A journal is useful for tracking trends. If I get sick next March, it'll be confirmed as a conspiracy. Storyteller Bio Dramatis Personnae Who I Read Recipes |
March 11, 2002And breathe out.As I was telling Sherry, if the state of Kymm's soul were up to me, it'd be doomed. So much for daily updating. I went into it with the best of intentions. And thereby paved the road to hell. I'm finally getting over being sick. I ended up missing two days of work last week, and barely pulled myself through the days I *did* attend. I presented to our organization on Wednesday and got the sympathy vote from all who attended. The fact that the first three rows of chairs up front were vacant was testament to how much my colleagues didn't want to catch what I had. I croaked my way through the thing, croaked my way through another meeting after it, and went home. I stayed home Thursday, but ended up calling in to several meetings anyway. And fighting with our computer support group to get my remote access working. Yet another round of the technology dance that I'm finding myself less and less equipped to handle patiently. Poor Marie is just getting over strep throat. She missed three days of school last week and did nothing at all but sleep on the couch. On Thursday we took her to the doctor. The nurse said she hadn't seen a more colorful throat this season. She swabbed a sample to check under the microscope to confirm if it was indeed strep. She came back in a few moments declaring "The rabbit's dead." Calvin and I cracked up, and we had to explain what the nurse meant to Marie. The doctor promptly pumped Marie's butt full of penicillin, prescribed more penicillin in liquid form, and pain pills. Marie then proceeded to hold the couch down for the rest of the weekend. She hasn't been this sick in a long time, but it looks like she's coming out of it. I think she's a little disappointed, since it means she has to start doing her chores again. Fortunately, missing two days of work last week didn't effect my project implementation. It kicked off without a (visible) hitch this morning, so I'm crossing my fingers that it'll continue to progress smoothly. I'm out again this Thursday and Friday, and there's really only so much torture I can put my backups through before they begin to resent me. ********************* This weekend was spent preparing for Susan's arrival - doing some touch-up paint work, cleaning Michael's room, and all the rest of the standard chores that come with the weekend. Our much-anticipated pub table finally arrived, so we went to pick that up. We also purchased a lamp to go behind it, and a lamp for the living room. I got caught up on my Philosophy homework and finished my oral report for my presentation tonight. Only my final paper and final test to go, and I'm done with the class. And that's about as exciting as the weekend got. With Marie sick, we pretty much just stayed home and pottered around the house. My goal over the next week or so (whirlwind of Susan-related activities permitting) is to get caught up on all of the collabs and web rings I owe entries to (these laundry list entries have got to stop - they make for the most *boring* reads), post the romantic story I've been promising my Storyteller participants, and writing for this month's Storyteller topic. Plus I need to get caught up on my regular reads - I wish I had more time to keep abreast of the goings-on of the journalling community (like The Usual Suspects - I bet I'm missing all kinds of fun stuff). There. I feel like I've brought you all current now. ********************* I watched "9/11" on TV last night, as I'm sure many of you did. While I'm sure I don't have the sense of immediacy that the folks who live in New York feel, I was still deeply moved, troubled, and horrified all over again while watching that footage. The evil that people are capable of continues to sicken me; the good that people are capable of continues to strengthen me. The part that moved me the most about the program was the shots of all the people on the street. All from different backgrounds, different cultures, speaking different languages. Yet all were united by their feelings of disbelief and dismay. The commentator spoke the truth when he said that the entire world was there that day. In person. Living it. Or, horribly, not. |
