Babies everywhere!

I know, I know. I've been severely lacking in the realm of updating. Guess what? I've been sick as a dog AGAIN. Wasn't that the topic of my last entry, too? Yes, well. I came down sick last Monday afternoon, and ended up having to telecommute for the rest of the week because of a WICKED sore throat and headache. Here it is Monday come 'round again and the damn cold is still lingering.

My boss is one patient and understanding man. I mean, I basically telecommuted for two whole weeks in the past month. Rest assured I will be popping the vitamins and keeping my ass at work for the forseeable future.

Okay! The subject of this entry is "babies". Of a variety of species. First and foremost, for those of you non-blog readers/non-Flickr perusers, Lilly had the baby on March 9th. They named him Roman Wade, and he was born at 10:30 in the morning (arriving in a rush, since Lilly only went into labor at 4:00 a.m.) weighing 7 lbs. 12 oz and measuring 18.5 inches.

Pictures courtesy of Lilly:

Budda Baby!!!

He's got Grandpa's scowl, puckered forehead and everything.

And Grandpa's nose! Quoth Calvin, "Poor kid."

Robert holding his baby brother.

"Come on, take the binky."

"Please take the binky!"

"Look, kid. I'm your big brother and you're supposed to do what I say."

You got a thing against binkies?"

I have a few sweet shots of the little men, as well.

Pre-hair cut, post-awakening.

Such sweet little peas!!

Little men, patiently waiting for FOO-DUH!

And now for some baby pictures of a different sort. Here are a few recent shots of the water dragons, with some horticultural additions courtesy of my green-thumbed husband.

We're thinking of naming the one in the foreground "Ruffles" because of its nice big neck ridge. Remember that commercial? "Rrrruffles have rrridges..."

"Whachoo lookin' at?" And isn't that red spikey plant cool? It's one of Calvin's new additions - he's trying to replace all of the artificial foliage with living stuff.

And now! For the newest "baby" of the family. Calvin went out yesterday, and when he came home he set a wriggling cloth bag in my lap (and how many girls do YOU know who would say, "Cool, what's this?" instead of "EEEEEEK!"). I opened it up and saw the bright brown eyes of a bearded dragon blinking back at me.

We promptly went out and bought a terrarium, heating and lighting stuff, and of course an "All About Beardies" book.

Apparently acquiring reptiles is as much of an obsession as piercings and tattoos. And there is a select group of you out there that know exactly what I'm talking about.

I really want to name him Slartibartfast but I suspect I will get strong opposition from Calvin and Marie.

What a cute face!!

He hasn't eaten yet (beardies eat 80% vegetation and 20% live food such as crickets and worms), but if I'd had to travel in a bag and get placed in unfamiliar surroundings, I'd be off my appetite, too.

The folks at Pets Inc. do assure us that this is a male, about 18 months old. I guess the previous owners didn't take very good care of him, so Pets Inc. had him under quarantine for a while to try to fatten him up. He wasn't even for sale yet when Calvin asked about him (he'd seen me coo-ing over him the last time we made a visit together - Pets Inc. is where we get the majority of our supplies). The guy hemm'ed and haww'ed, then said, "Well, let me see you hold him." I guess something about the way Calvin handled the lizard convinced them to sell it to him. My husband, the Lizard Whisperer.

Checking out his new territory.

So that's the news! This place deserves the name "Animal Planet". Oz is quite put out that we keep shooing him away from all of these fun new toys. Gypsy and Gadget are indifferent, as the lizards do not compete for their food.

A herpticulture section will be added to the website soon, for those of you who are interested. It's quite the hobby we've gotten ourselves into, huh?
