Momentary Thought

Damn! This place gets reaaaally quiet around 3:00 on Fridays...

High/Low

High: Dawn's upcoming visit!

Low: Calvin informs me that the water heater has blown a hose and rather dampened the contents of our garage.

Current Obsession

Gee, was I supposed to have a homework assignment done by Monday? Ewps.

Grin Source

A duck walks into a pharmacy and asks for some chapstick. The guy behind the counter asks, "Cash or charge?" Duck says "Just put it on my bill."

Singing

Various Prince songs.

I've got a half an hour to do a quickie entry. Then I've got to blaze home to help Calvin deal with the recalcitrant water heater.

Okay, so I alluded to a fellow journaler's visit in a few weeks, in yesterday's entry. Having forthwith received permission to reveal her identity (and she has mine), I'm pleased to say that I will finally meet Dawn of Running With Scissors, in person, at the end of this month. She's coming to town on business, and we've made plans to hook up and do partying type activities.

Dawn will officially be the first OLJ-er that I will meet in "real life". As such, I'm in the not-uncommon throes of "Will she like me?" "Will she think I'm a dork?" "Will I live up to her expectations?" "Am I better or worse in person than I am via my website or e-mail?"

Calvin thought it a bit weird (as did Dawn's hubby, G) to consider making all these plans with someone we've never actually "met". I guess it smacks to him of all those stories one hears of disparate bids at Internet romance that end in tragedy. Or at the very least end in disgust. The fact that we're not "romancing", rather we're continuing in person a friendship we've developed through correspondence, is a difference that took some explaining. But in the end I think Calvin's looking forward to this, too. He read her website, dubbed her a kindred spirit (okay, not in those exact words), and looks forward to hearing if she has a southern accent.

It's fun to meet new people, especially ones that have as much in common as Dawn seems to have with us. If her hubby were coming along, that would be even better. I suspect he and Calvin would hit it off (and free Dawn and I up for the more girly activities such as giggling and gossiping and conversing about all things journal-y).

We've been trying out names for our own little Mini JournalCon. "Girly Crush Micro JournalCon" is in the running.

So, Animal Planet inhabitants have dubbed this a Good Thing. And I hope that Dawn doesn't object to having a digital camera present at all times in order to adequately document the weekend. Heh.

Okay! Other than that, not much news. Marie's end-of-school party is next weekend, so we'll be prepping for that. We hope to go for a quick camping trip over Memorial weekend, so we'll be trying to plan that. Mother's day is on Sunday, so we'll probably do a bit of visiting. The house is a mess, so I'll be cleaning it. My legs jiggle when I walk, so I'll be working out. My stats homework is calling to me, so I'll be pulling out my hair. The kids' computer has been acting up, so I'll be burning all of our pictures onto a CD and get them off the hard drive before the thing goes kaput.

Just another manic weekend. You have yourselves a good one!
