Momentary Thought

I've been gone a long time and kinda got out of the groove of journaling. I shall strive to fix that, but I gotta tell ya, I'm busy and there's just no end in sight to the busy-ness.

High/Low

High: Long weekend! Last day of school for Marie! No more bus duty!

Low: Calvin's sick.

Current Obsession

Clothes shopping! Oh, and there's a mission down there. Go look. G'wan!

Grin Source

Haven't had time to grin, I'm afraid.

Singing

No time to sing, either.

Hi, here I am! Checking in. Terribly sorry and all that. Life has been super king sized mondo mucho busy. Six projects at work have escalated to an accelerated mode, and it's a darn good thing I dropped that stupid Stats class - I'd never have time to study.

Tuesday night was the finale of Buffy, and I'm curious to see how they're going to work their way out of *that* particular plot twist (purposely not mentioning spoilers here for my overseas fans who haven't seen the ep yet). After that I went out for an extended run, working off a minor aggravation stemmed from an argument with Calvin over who was supposed to make dinner ("Dinner? Buffy's on!").

Wednesday night was Michael's highschool graduation. The pictures follow below. I was terribly proud of him, even though it wasn't quite the graduation experience I'd envisioned for him. The school he ended up going to this year was a Charter school, and was attended by such students that were removed or otherwise couldn't attend their own district school. So, a lot of delinquents. A whole lot of *good* kids there, I'm sure, but a lot of trouble makers. I mean, when the announced the faculty members, they announced their very own parole officer. That says something about the students, I think.

At any rate, Michael's graduation was attended by members of both sides of the family, which added somewhat to the tension. Calvin and I refused a dinner get-together with X(f), which pissed her off (she was trying on the Magnanimous Mamma act, I think), but other than that angst fallout was averted. Michael's recruiting officer for the Marines attended, too, which I thought was great.

It was a very low key, low budget affair. Folding chairs in an auditorium, a bare stage with a podium and a couple of chairs, and that's it. No decorations to speak of, and the graduation march piped in over the speakers. Many *many* crying babies and shrieking children, who were occasionally drowned out by the shrieking family members of diploma recipients. Not the classiest crowd I've ever been among, but they sure were enthusiastic.

The entire ceremony, from speeches to awards to diplomas, lasted barely an hour. It ended with an unceremonious "I guess that's it, thanks for coming." The two families (X(f) with her dad and stepmom, Michael's friend, Calvin and I with Calvin's mom and her hub, Marie and her friend, Calvin's older sister, and Calvin's younger sister with her hub and kids) mingled for a bit, getting pictures and being teeth-grittingly civil. Michael and Marie went home with their mom (Marie came back to our house later that evening, and Michael came back the next day), and Calvin and I went out to dinner.

The angst between Calvin and X(f) is still alive and thriving, and her behavior (which I won't go in to full detail here), coupled with his anxiety over Michael's change in life and concern for his success, have all served to make Calvin one big stressy mess. He's been sick to his stomach for four days now, and actually missed two days of work. He and I have had a lot of good conversations, though, and conversations with the kids. I'm hoping he'll be able to talk all his anxiety out. It's quite a big deal for him to know be the parent of a graduated son - sort of one of those life milestones that he always anticipated, but didn't actually *realize* until it was right on top of him.

One down, one to go.

Last night was uneventful, too. I fought off a headache for a while, then went running with Marie rollerblading beside me, then went swimming at our neighborhood pool. Passed out on the couch at 9:30.

Which brings us to today! I fully intend to use this long weekend to rest and regroup, and I hope to actually post a *meaningful* entry, instead of these lame "this is what I did today" laundry lists.

Take a gander at these here pictures, and I'll catch you guys later on this weekend!

This is actually a picture of Calvin taken on the evening we went to see Much Ado About Nothing, on 4/26.
And me, too. Ew. Right before I got my hair done again.

All of Calvin's side of the family.
The cutie patooties, Marie and her friend.

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it...

Hey, I'm trying to track down a really good fitness magazine. One that has useful advice, is comparatively low on the ads, has some good recipes and exercises, etc. I tried out Self and almost died at all the perfume samples, and there was *no* useful information in it whatsoever. Anybody have any good ones to recommend?
