I am a moody thing, aren't I?

This month has gotten completely away from me, hasn't it?

High: Finals are over, and I think I did okay.

Low: The wedding attendance is down to 19 people, the reasons for which I will disclose in a later entry.

The Shape Up (tm) Challenge over at iVillage.com.

Calvin tickling me to death until I snapped out of my funk.

Nothing at the moment, but I'm sure that will change.

There were changes in the wind.

The skinny

I know I owe you guys Part 2 of The Lessons of Horse, but I haven't been able to get to it yet. It involves scanning pictures and whatnot, so I'm hoping to get to it sometime this week(end). In the meanwhile, here's an e-mail entry I sent to my Notify List last week. See what you miss when you don't get notified? I'm just sayin'.

********************

Hello, my friends! Sorry for the continued lack of regular updates. Things have been simultaneously busy and not-busy at the same time. It's not something I can really explain, so I'm not going to try.

I've been spending much of my time over at Uno~Momento (http://www.snerkology.com/unomomento.htm), just to let you know that I haven't *completely* fallen off the face of the earth. But it is not my intention to be "all blog, all the time!". Not at all. ~Snerkology~ is still my hearth and home.

Physics finals are this week - tomorrow, to be exact. And Marie's eighth-grade graduation is tomorrow, as well. Which means that I won't get to my class (which starts at 6:00) until about 8:00 or so. I've already told the professor, but I'll miss the first two hours of discussion over the final chapters of the book - Theory of Relativity and Quantum Physics, no less. I may or may not be doomed, it's hard to tell right now.

Michael was home for the long weekend, and we went to an Arizona Rattler's (arena football) game on Saturday night. Their team mascot is a buffalo, which they would ride around the arena at certain points. The poor thing, being spurred on its lumbering way by a would-be cowboy (buffaloboy?). I felt sorry for it, especially considering the fireworks booming overhead whenever the team scored. The pomp and circumstance organized sports put on annoys me sometimes. And yet, I went. I am a hypocrite, hear me roar.

Calvin and I went to Bed Bath and Beyond on Sunday, after I FINALLY got fed up over my neck and back being in constant agony. We bought a feather mattress, a couple of feather pillows, and this weirdly shaped neck pillow. The upshot of those purchases is a much less frequently grumbling neck and back. But the downside is that the bed is now made up of such fluffy, cushy, comfy goodness that hauling myself out of it in the morning has become a Battle Of Wills. My Will To Sleep versus My Will To Be Gainfully Employed. So far, the latter is winning. It's only the first day back, though, so the jury is still out on this one.

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!

Monday we went to see Attack of the Clones. I wasn't terribly impressed. Here's the analysis I sent to Archibael:

- Love scenes = trite
- Obi W's ability to be at the *exact* place he needs to be of an entire planet of possibilities, at the *exact* moment he needs to be there to hear the *exact* item of information that is absolutely vital to his mission = eyes rolling
- Ani's pouts = old right from the get-go
- Jar Jar Binks = thankfully few scenes
- A conveniently cloned army that just happened to be ready right when it was needed, which was discovered purely by happenstance by Obi W's discovery of a missing planet in the archives, which spurred him to investigate out of the blue = yeah, whatever
- The council's blithe acceptance of said army's availability, which they knew was ordered up by a rogue Jedi, and yet didn't suspect that maybe this handy little army has an ulterior motive = what, are they *that* stupid?

Yoda's fight scene was the best part of the whole movie. It well and truly RAWKED.

Archibael and I both agreed, we're *so over* the relationship between Amidala and Anniken. To quote Archibael:

"I don't want to get involved with you, Ani." I wanted him to say, "Then what's with the romantic music, firelight, and the leather f*cking bustier, bitch?" If there's any scene which was just screaming, "Use your Force on me now, young padawan!", it was that one.

("Who's your evil Jedi, huh? Come on! Who's the master of darkness?")

God, he slays me.

END SPOILER ZONE

We also watched The Others last night, which was quite excellent. Of course, I guessed the culmination of the plot line early on, but that didn't spoil the movie for me. That ability of mine to figure out the movie within the first five minutes drives Calvin bonkers.

I love to constantly endear myself to him.

Finally, I'm trying to seriously get my butt in gear with respect to my fitness, weight, and health goals. I've re-joined iVillage.com's Shape Up Fitness Challenge again this year (I did it two years ago, and it worked well for me). It starts June 3rd and goes for eight weeks. It's a very common-sensical approach to eating habits and workout habits, that's introduced slowly and gradually over time so that eating healthy and working out becomes a way of life, not a "diet". I've found their message boards to be very supportive, and there's more health, fitness, and diet information on that website than I've ever seen in one place. I'm finding it to be very helpful. If anybody else out there has done it or is planning on doing it, give me a shout! We can be each other's support buddies. Or if you're interested in specific URL's, let me know.

I'm doing Kathy Smith's Five Day Jump Start program (details on iVillage.com's website) in preparation for the Shape Up Challenge. Today through Saturday I will eat four times a day, have protein at every meal, limit carbs and starches, and stuff myself on fruit and veggies. So far, so good - I had yogurt and fruit (melon, grapes and strawberries) for breakfast. Lunch is 1/2 ham sandwich, 1/2 cup potatoes, and a baggie full of carrot sticks. Dinner is a 4oz steak, 1/2 baked potato, and asparagus. An apple and a hunk of low-fat cheddar cheese for a snack.

It's only one week. I can do it. But then, the Shape Up challenge features much the same eating, so I'd better get used to this, I guess.

Wedding plans are in the bag, with nothing left to do but wait for the date to arrive (ack! one month! ack!), and bottom out on what we're going to do in California. Any Cal folks out there with suggestions? We're going to be there July 1st through the 6th...

Update: We've decided to fly into LA, spend two nights there (or in the area) and go to Six Flags, then drive up the Pacific Coast Highway to Monterey, spend two nights there and go to the Aquarium, then drive further up the highway to San Francisco, spend two nights there, do Cannery Row and Alcatraz, then fly home.

So! That's what's going on with me. I'll probably post this as an entry at some point in the future, but remember! You Heard It Here First, Folks! :) I'm still staying up to date on my "regular" reads, and I owe about fifty million people e-mails (not to mention a collab for On Display). Part 2 of "The Lessons of Horse" is forthcoming in the next day or two - as soon as I get beyond my finals.

Take care, everyone!
