Momentary Thought

Microsoft may be too big for its britches, and get away with much more than it should, but they sure do have a good product in Windows Media Player v. 7.01.

High/Low

High: Jammin' to my tunes and getting some serious work done.

Also, Jen's back, and more prolific than ever!

Low: Adios to Squishy. Good luck, Pamie!

Current Obsession

Getting the truck washed! It doth stinketh.

Grin Source

Dawn's spider story.

Man alive, I must say that I love the "Varsity Blues" soundtrack. Sprung Monkey's version of "Thunderstruck" is kick ass. Plus, Foo Fighter's "My Hero" is one of my favorite songs.

I've been thinking a lot today about what music has made up the soundtrack of my life. Sometimes it's a daily soundtrack, sometimes it's the soundtrack of an event. For instance, the "camping trip to Big Lake" soundtrack was:

  • Van Halen Best Of: Volume I

  • Journey's Greatest Hits

  • Piano - The Greatest Hits

  • Tim McGraw - Greatest Hits

  • Bon Jovi - Crossroad

  • Armageddon - The Album

  • Duran Duran - Greatest Hits

Huh. All "greatest hits" albums, except for the Armageddon soundtrack. That wasn't even on purpose. Not surprising, really, since our CD collection consists mostly of movie soundtracks and greatest hits CD's.

The soundtrack of my relationship with my ex would look a little something like this:

  • Led Zeppelin - any and all albums, but mostly IV. Primarily "Thank You" and "The Battle of Evermore"

  • Robert Plant - Now and Zen, and Manic Nirvana. Primarily "Ship of Fools", and "Nirvana".

  • Queen - Greatest Hits

  • Yes

  • Kansas

  • Jane's Addiction

  • Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit. Primarily "Underneath The Bridge"

  • The Doors. Primarily anything dark and depressing. Which is pretty much all of it.
The soundtrack of my life with Calvin would look like this:

  • Journey. All of it, but especially "Separate Ways".

  • Bee Gees

  • Abba - Primarily "Dancing Queen"

  • Def Leppard

  • Scorpions, primarily "Rock You Like A Hurricane". That's Calvin's theme song.

  • Phil Collins, primarily "In The Air Tonight".

  • KC and the Sunshine Band

  • "A Night at the Roxbury" Soundtrack
The soundtrack of my single life would consist of:

  • Prince

  • Madonna

  • George Michael, primarily "Freedom"

  • The Police. "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" became my theme song.

  • Enya

  • Anything 80's. "In Cars" and "She Blinded Me With Science" and "Kiss" always reminds me of Archibael ("there's no particular sign I'm more compatible with!" - I can totally picture him singing that). I hung out with him and his wife a lot when I was single.

  • Aerosmith

  • Def Leppard

  • INXS

  • Simon and Garfunkel
My teenage-hood consisted of:

  • Aerosmith - Permanent Vacation

  • Def Leppard - Hysteria

  • Cyndi Lauper

  • Fleetwood Mac

  • Heart

  • New Kids on the Block (okay, only for about four months or so!)

  • Huey Lewis and the News

  • David Lee Roth - his "Eat 'em and Smile" album

  • U2 - "The Joshua Tree"

  • Steve Winwood, "Roll With It". Learned to line dance to that one.
I don't have a favorite song. I never have. I have favorite songs by particular artists, but no one song that I would call my favorite, above all others.

  • Prince - "Cream", or "Get Off"
  • Aerosmith - "Angel"
  • George Michael - toss up between "Freedom" and "Kissing a Fool"
  • Journey - toss up between "Lights" and "Separate Ways"
  • Van Halen - "Can't Stop Lovin' You", and also "Poundcake"
  • Enya - "Oronoco Flow"
  • Robert Palmer - "Simply Irresistible" and "Some Like It Hot" (that one will always remind me of the trip Calvin and I took to San Diego)
  • Seal - "Kiss from a Rose"
  • Phil Collins - "In The Air Tonight"
  • Peter Gabriel - "In Your Eyes"
  • Led Zepplin - "What Is and What Should Never Be", "Ramble On", "Immigrant Song", "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp", "The Battle Of Evermore", "Misty Mountain Hop", "Going to California", "D'Yer Mak'er", "Kashmir". What can I say, I'm a fan.
  • Fleetwood Mac - "You Make Lovin' Fun"
  • Abba - "Dancing Queen"
  • Barry White - "Can't Get Enough of Your Love"
  • Dave Matthews - "Ants Marching" and "Crash"
  • Stone Temple Pilots - "Big Empty"
  • My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult - "After The Flesh"
  • Def Leppard - "Pour Some Sugar on Me"
  • Madonna - "Vogue" and "Express Yourself"
  • Nine Inch Nails - "I Want to F**k You Like An Animal"
  • Simon and Garfunkel - "The 59th Street Bridge Song", and "The Sound of Silence". Also "El Condor Pasa".
  • The Chieftains - "Mo Ghile Mear" (the one with Sting)
  • U2 - "One", and also "With or Without You"
I guess I'll stop now, but it's so easy to list all of my favorite songs. You see why I can't just pick one?

Look out, next I'm going to tortue you with all of my favorite *books*! Heh.

Michael's Update Box

We sent Michael a printout of our camping trip entry, which, with all the photos from the thumbnails, came out to be about fifty pages. Haven't heard anything new from him.
