Funny thing about my last entry. Quite a few people e-mailed me wishing me a happy birthday. I was baffled for a moment until I re-read that entry. I guess a lot of people read "Tomorrow I'll be thirty years old" and took me literally. But, as in the rest of the entry, I was being metaphorical. Allegorical? Hmm... My birthday was back in July, and I turned 27. But thanks, anyway, for the messages! I'll keep 'em and read them again in three years. Heh.

Today *is* Calvin's birthday, though. He's thirty-mumble, and resentful as all get-out that he has to have these things once a year. We had a beautifully marvellous day yesterday - we did absolutely nothing. Didn't even get dressed. We just snuggled and teased and cuddled and warm-fuzzied the day away. It was just one of those days when we were really connected. Lots of glances and smiles from across the room, as he played on the computer and I read a book. A glorious Sunday afternoon nap - which, as anyone knows, is the *best* time for a nap. The official Reading Of The Sunday Paper. The appropriate commentary of disgust as we watched the game, and the showing the Cardinals *didn't* make. A passing effort at doing some laundry, which pretty much fizzled out as soon as it got started. ~pant~ (photo courtesy of In Style Magazine)Roast for dinner, followed by a hot Tropical Spray bubble bath, followed by the series premiere of "UC Undercover". I am blatantly only watching that show for Oded Fehr - you know, the swarthy guy from "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns".

Saturday night our friend AM and her fiance (how do I make that funky character thingy over the "e" in HTML?) came over. They brought turkey for the grill, and we hung out, drinking, gabbing, and listening to music. Their company, as usual, was entertaining. Calvin and I didn't go to bed until 2:00 in the morning, and we surprised ourselves by getting up at 8:00 on Sunday.

Going backwards in the timeline, here - on Saturday afternoon we went out and bought a workstation to set up the computer that AcronymCo sent me. I thought I'd mentioned something about that here before, but looking back through my archives, I can't find it. Anyway, AcronmyCo enacted a new benefit this year, and is sending every one of its 80,000+ employees a personal computer for home use. What cracked me up is the letter from the CEO that came with it - "This computer is for personal use. Employees are not expected to do AcronymCo work at home." The sad thing is, that *needed* to be said - I, and every other AcronymCo employee, have a very bad habit of bringing work home. At any rate, the thing is fully loaded. Monitor, printer, camera, games (I'm doomed, one of them is "SimCity 2000"), and free internet access for the duration of my employment. If I ever leave the company, the computer is still mine. Can't beat that. Gee, I wasn't really complaining about my job recently, was I?

And we bought a desk for Marie's room, too, to do her homework on. Anything we can do to encourage her in that area is to be done.

Michael is gone again tomorrow, for 17 days of advanced combat training back in San Diego. From there he goes to his MOS in Florida for a while. We haven't seen much of Michael since he's been home. Between working at the recruiter's office, borrowing his mother's truck (and subsequently spending quite a bit of time there), and running around on various dates, he hasn't been home much. Tonight will be more of the same, so we're hoping to have breakfast with him tomorrow morning before he leaves. Which means playing hookey from work. Which, you know, is just heartbreaking.

So that's it for the late breaking news. I have one other piece of news that I'm ABSOLUTELY ECSTATIC about, but I have to wait until I receive permission to divulge it before I tell you all. How's that for a reason to keep coming back?
