From Calvin: A Rebuttal

As advertised. A rebuttal. Copied verbatim (verspellim, vergrammarim) and unchanged from the original text.

Laura has ask on a few occasions for me to write a guest entry or respond to one so what better time than this.

First let me clarify, "Books is stoopid!" was\is a joke. So you all can put your bookmarks away before someone get's a paper cut. The true issue is not about reading, it's about the time picked to do so. Now I will admit there are times that I just want her undivided attention and do not care what it is that's in the way of that. But mostly I just cannot understand how anyone can read and re-read as much, often and for as long as she can. Now the only reason I responed to this entry was the fact it is completly inaccurate, well except for the part about Calista and boobies...

As I write this Laura is on the couch reading one of Ten free books she recieved in the mail yesterday (Editor's note: It was nine.) Free?? Yes free since she has ordered sooo many they gave her these free. She went out to the truck today while at work to read! (Editor's note: It was raining outside and in the low 70's, and I wanted to enjoy it. So I ate in my truck with the windows open, and read.)

There is a stack of books on the stairs from this last weeks reading (Editor's note: A few weeks, actually) that I just wish she would put in the room with the other few hundred books. Problem is she loves reading so much she has no real idea how much time she spends doing it and therefor away from all other things in life.

Just some quotes from her entry

1)It certainly baffles Calvin that I can sit for hours at a time a devour an entire book (or two, or three) in one day. Again, that lack of comprehension is fine by me.

2)Folks, that ain't the way of it. I don't even read on a daily basis. And when I do, the most I get the opportunity for is maybe an hour or so.

Which is it? :}

3)Okay, fine. I could understand all of that if I had my nose in a book 24 hours a day. If I read at the expense of my family,...

The following should answer that.

4)If I'm reading while he's taking a nap (he wakes up, comes stumbling into the living room, sees me reading on the couch, grumps, "It figures," and stumbles back into the bedroom). If he's tired and I'm not, so I stay up and read (especially if I'm tired the next night and he's not ready to go to bed yet... "Oh, you can stay up all night and read, but you can't stay up and spend time with me!")

5)How many times have you read THAT one?" The, "You'd rather read a stupid book than spend time with me." The rolling eyes. The, "Books is stupid." The, "Don't you have something else to do?" The, "Put the stupid book down." And finally, the actual anger that occasionally surfaces.

I went to take a nap (or whatever task..) because that's all she is doing and will not stop. ( God! Why did'nt she mow the lawn while I was asleep??)

All would agree not much fun to be left with the feeling your spouce would rather read a book for the 103rd time than hit the bed. (Besides, this will only take a second.)

So for those of you think this is childish or selfish I would say look inward first. Your Husbands (Editor's note: Husbands with a Capital H!) are probably upset because you still have not taken care of your share of the common household responsibilities yet again. So if your still sitting there with book in hand and the house is a mess, dinner is not done or the clothes are still not washed. Get off your ass and clean up. He is not the the selfish one you are.

I want everyone to understand that what I have just said was mostly tounge n cheek (Editor's Note: I wonder which part was serious, hmmm?). There is no issue in this house with Laura, she is as good as it gets (Editor's note: Except that I, apparently, read too much and neglect my husb... er, sorry, Husband.) I just like to pick on her and this one really works;) Plus if she would put the books down for abit she might just have time enough in her busy day to get "Dance Bitches" in the mail. OOOOoo! BURN! (Editor's Note: I deserved that - he wrote this, what, over a week ago? I just finished burning the CD's last night, and perhaps by the Grace of God will get them in the mail this week.)

Gotta go TWo and a Half Men is coming on and there is Porn to be surfed.

~CALVIN~

P.S. - Calvin wanted me to let you all know that it took me this long to post his rebuttal because I was too busy reading. Heh.
