In The Air Tonight

Calling all readers! I'm trying to track down the remix version of "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. I know, I know, "Which one?" There seems to be a million. We have three(?) CD's with that song on it (even an instrumental by the London Philharmonic), and none of them are the right version. I e-mailed the local 80's music station, and here's what they had to say:

I have been trying to locate the version of Phil Collin's "In The Air Tonight" that has been getting air play recently. I've purchased several different albums with a "remix", but none of them are the right version. What album does the version you've been playing come from? I'd like to surprise my fiance with the CD for Christmas. Thanks for your help!

Laura-

That version is a tough one to find. It's an import CD single. Your best bet is to try to find it at a specialty record store. Not a Best Buy, Wal-Mart or Target. You need to look for it at a locally owned record store. I believe it was redone in '87.

Also, try searching for it on the web. If you have no luck. Let me know and I can see if I can aid you in your search.

Thanks,

So, anybody out there have any idea? I will pay you with many gold pieces. I will wish prosperity on your family. May your camels always find water. May you bear many sons (or daughters, according to your preference). May the sun bless you with its gentle benediction upon your children, and your children's children, and your children's children's children...

In other news, what about that darned election, huh?

In unrelated news, there are 45 shopping days left before Christmas! As I've mentioned, we're having Calvin's family over. There'll be about 20 people in all. This is an absolute first for me - I only started re-celebrating Christmas in 1998, since I was 10. I'm still getting used to the tree/shopping/decorating/cooking/carols aspect of things (though I *always* watched the Christmas specials on TV, regardless of if I was celebrating or not).

Pet peeve - Don't you *hate* the use of the so-called word "irregardless"? Calvin is convinced it's a proper word. And it is actually in the dictionary, which has this to say:

Main Entry: ir·re·gard·less
Pronunciation: "ir-i-'gärd-l+s
Function: adverb
Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless
Date: circa 1912
nonstandard : REGARDLESS
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

Back to the topic at hand... where was I? Oh, yes, Christmas. Sheesh, Laura, tangent much? As I was saying, we've got a shindig planned, and it's the first time I've ever hosted a party of any sort at all. I've never had more than a handful of people to my house at one time, so I'm tackling this latest project in my usual way.

Can you say, "Lists?" I knew you could.

I've got the menu planned out. I've got a start on the grocery shopping list. I have a list of attendees, and what I'll need them to bring. I've got a spreadsheet that outlines how much the seafood is going to cost for each person (this last one was dictated to me by the members of Calvin's family - they want to chip in for the cost of having live lobsters and crab claws flown in from Maine. And I must admit, the normal half-dozen 1.5 pounders we usually get are much less expensive than the 14 lobsters and 10 pounds of crab claws we're ordering this year). It's a tradition (if you can call two Christmases - now three - in a row "tradition") in our family to have lobsters for Christmas dinner, and now we're extending it to the rest of Calvin's family. I'm really hoping it goes off well.

I'm also stressing that I haven't even *begun* Christmas shopping, but that's another story for another day.

If your interested in live Maine lobsters at a reasonable price, check out Cape Porpoise Lobster Company, out of Cape Porpoise, Maine (where else would I buy them? AJ's Fine Foods? For $24 a pound? Um, no). It's a little bit of home for me, and the chance to hear dying lobsters squeal as they're dropped into boiling water for the kids. How's *that* for Christmas spirit?
