The Good, the Bad, and the Grumpy

Today has just not been a Good Day. Actually, it started off Quite Bad. Crap from yesterday rippled into today's mood, and to top it all off, Calvin was away from home last night, and might possibly be away tonight, too. He's doing a job in Flagstaff that requires him to stay over. It has just thrown my routine completely out of wack, and y'all know how important my routine is.

Yesterday afternoon, upon dropping Marie off at home after school, I observed that Michael neglected to clean the kitchen as he was instructed to do that morning (Marie did it, bless her). Marie saw fit to ignore her bedtime last night and as a result woke up late this morning, thereby cancelling our plans to grab breakfast before school/work. The dogs barked, growled, and wrestled with each other all night, interrupting my already screwed-up sleep (no Calvin). I woke up to find lights on in the kitchen and living room, after asking the kids repeatedly to turn out all the lights when they go to bed. Being out of my routine, I didn't get coffee this morning before work. Upon getting to work, it took me twenty minutes to log into the network. Upon speaking to Calvin, it seems he may have to spend another night away from home. I am covering the daily morning Ops meeting this week. I'm in a four hour MBP session this afternoon, in which I am presenting.

Today is most decidedly *not* a Good Day.

Yet, on the other hand, a bunch of cool things have happened over the past few days that, when thought about, do quite well to alter my State Of Grumpiness.

The Good

  • WAY good - Calvin got a bonus, by virtue of his Kick Assedness. As a result, Christmas will be just a little more fun this year.
  • Semi-cool - I got an award at work, and while my name was spelled wrong on the presentation, it at least came with a $50.
  • We've got tickets to see Journey and REO Speedwagon in concert on New Year's Eve.
  • I found the version of In The Air Tonight that I was looking for, courtesy of Amazon.com. It came in the mail yesterday.
  • Ally McBeal has become entertaining again.
  • Lunch is free today, courtesy of the hated MBP session.
  • Starbucks is going a long way toward making up for my missed coffee this morning.
  • People keep complimenting me on my hair and purple jacket today.
  • Michael called me at work just to say hi and see how I was doing, and to fill me in on what's going on with him.
  • This isn't really a good, except for how it made Calvin feel - both kids keep asking when he'll be home. Marie said she has to be twice as weird to make up for his absence. Michael said he just feels unhappy when Calvin's away. I called him and passed this message along.

The Bad

  • The breaks are squeaking. Again. This will be the third time in as many months that I have to take the damned truck in.
  • AcronymCo's vending machine no longer supplies Chex Mix.
  • Calvin's away. I'm including it here, but it could very well make up the *entirety* of this "The Bad" list.
  • I haven't gotten a letter from home in ages. And before you say "you have to write a letter to get a letter", I did. Several times, without a response. I am *owed*, dammit.
  • The aforementioned MBP session. We have to be *entertaining*, we're told. Ugh. Picture a room full of engineers, project planners, technicians, and managers. *Trying* to be entertaining. ~shudder~
  • I forgot my compact at work and so had to make due with pressed powder this morning. It's just not the same. Especially when you need... ahem... coverage for certain indelicate facial eruptions.
  • The GC is back, after a two-week hiatus, to take care of the punchlist. I was beginning to enjoy life again, too. Darn it all to heck.

The Grumpy

The cures for what ails me:
  • Writing this entry.
  • A good, hard workout, scheduled for after work this afternoon.
  • Munching on a handful of Planter's Peanuts.
  • A bubble bath, scheduled for after my workout.
  • Being in Calvin's presence again! I hope I hope I hope...
  • A quite bedroom, my comfy robe, and "A Wrinkle in Time".

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it...

Inspired by my re-read of "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeline L'Engle- go to the library and check out a book you read as a child. Read it to yourself, or read it out loud to your significant other or child. Some good suggestions from my experience - "The Last of the Really Great Wangdoodles" by Julie Edwards. "Danny, Champion of the World" by Roald Dahl. "My Side of the Mountain" by Jean Craighead George. "The Lord of the Rings" series by J.R.R. Tolkien. The "Anne of Green Gables" series by L.M. Montgomery. "Little Women" and "Little Men" by Louisa May Alcott.

Results From Yesterday's Mission

Did y'all have a good day off? It's been awfully quiet out there...

I grabbed the design idea for the box thingy from Anna.
