I am a moody thing, aren't I?

Momentary Thought
English Breakfast tea, with honey, is the only thing making my throat bearable right now. As many vitamins as I took, and as many times as I washed my hands, I *still* caught the cold that's circulating around AcronymCo. Dammit.

High/Low
High: Katy of Auspice has contributed a story for Storyteller!

Low: I'm sick, and they drew five vials of blood yesterday at the doctor's office. Blarg.

Current Obsession
Adding all the Christmas presents I'm getting for the gang to my wish list on Amazon so I can keep track of 'em.

Grin Source
Calvin, singing the "Little Fishy" song - "An' they thwam and they thwam all over the dam! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Choo!"

Singing
We run, we hide
We want the good life...

  So I did this personality profile, as a lark, having gotten the link and idea from Terry. It takes the place and time I was born, and translates that into what my personality is like. It categorizes two ends of a spectrum, with the arrow pointing toward which end I tend to lean towards. Okay, so in some respects it was accurate, and in others it just wasn't. I shall share and rebut as appropriate:

Active <- Passive
"Laura has vast stores of vital energy which endow her with considerable physical endurance and initiative. However, the greater her energy resources, the less she will be able to control the flow, and it may sometimes border on hostility."

Rebuttal: Initiative I have, yes. However, "vast stores of vital energy" is not exactly accurate lately. One of the things I went to see the doctor for yesterday was to figure out the source of the fatigue I've been experiencing. Hence all the blood they took. Honestly speaking, when I *do* get energized, I go after whatever it is I'm doing with single-minded attention which may come off as hostility if someone makes me impatient.

Emotional <- Unemotional
"Laura's interest in any activity or theme is never lukewarm; she always commits herself passionately. She thus has the ability to engage in any sort of task, as long as the material is varied and diverse, a source of novelty and distraction. If the ratio is very large, she may be disturbed or affected by her emotions."

Rebuttal: I don't like to be bored, it's true. But I'm very content to go for walk or read a book, and I can sit a the computer for hours and download songs. This is making me seem like I need to be entertained, when I don't. I have no idea what it means by "If the ratio is very large...". And what do my emotions have to do with my interest in an activity? I'll say this - I'm emotional when it comes to my relationship, and unemotional when it comes to work.

Extroverted <- Introverted
"Laura feels, thinks, and acts as a function of objective circumstances. The outer world is the only one which counts for her, and her awareness is entirely focused on it. She is rarely moody or preoccupied, and may sometimes be wary of her subjectivity."

Rebuttal: BWA! This one's way off. While I am very adaptive to my circumstances, the outer world is *so* not the only thing that counts for me. I'm preoccupied quite a bit, though the only time I'm actually "moody" is in tandem with my cycle, or when I'm stressed. As Calvin can attest.

Primary -> Secondary
"Laura has a phlegmatic personality, and her responses to various outer stimuli are sometimes postponed or delayed. She is fairly slow to initiate an activity, if not laboriously so, but once she begins she is steady and determined."

Rebuttal: Huh? Didn't that just contradict what it said in Active/Passive? And hello? Phlegmatic? "phleg*mat*ic: having or showing a slow and stolid (stolid???) temperament. syn - impassive, apathetic, stoic, stolid (stolid???)." Okay, so I'm even tempered. I'm not comatose.

Narrow minded <- Open minded
"Laura has the ability to concentrate and focus her attention on a single object intensely and exclusively. She may become a specialist in her field."

Rebuttal: Yeah, but that doesn't make me narrow minded. It makes me focussed.

Egocentric <- Sociable
"Laura is centered on herself, and tends to relate everything to herself and may even be solipsistic. Her attitudes, perceptions, insights, and visions will always be fairly subjective."

Rebuttal: I had to look up "solipsistic". It wasn't in my Webster's, so I looked it up on the 'net. It had "solipsism" - "a theory holding that the self can know nothing but its own modifications and that the self is the only existent thing." I just feel like this is untrue, even though (yes) I have an on-line journal (all me! all the time!). And Calvin tends to say, "You know, Laura, it isn't always about you." But he also says I'm one of the most caring and generous people I know. So they can take their "solipsistic" and shove it.

Independent <- Cooperative
"Laura's fierce individualism will promote independent and original behavior. She tends to lack team spirit. On the contrary, she needs to feel free and untrammeled by others to be really effective."

Rebuttal: Nah. I'm definitely a team player, a joiner even. But I do tend to want to lead things if I think they're being done in an ineffective way. And I do work better under limited supervision - if I'm allowed the freedom to find my own way I can get it done quicker and better.

Authoritative <- Submissive
"Laura is motivated by a thirst for power which gives her a certain authority. She has a feeling she is leadership material. However, she has a tendency to infringe on other people's freedom, and she may initiate troublesome power struggles."

Rebuttal: This one's way off. I'd rather keep to the sidelines and out of the limelight, and don't go after power at all. I can be a good leader, but I'm just as content to let someone else lead if they're doing a good job of it. The last sentence of that are just pure bunk. I encourage freedom, and I *never* get in a power struggle. If *anything*, I'm submissive.

Self-confident <- Insecure
"Because she trusts in herself and her convictions, Laura has personality and presence. She is quite sure of herself, and may tend to be rather smug and self-satisfied, although this does not eliminate her need for other people's approval and recognition."

Rebuttal: This one is quite true, except for the smug and self-satisfied part. I'm proud of myself if I do a good job, is all. This one has grown over the years - if I had to describe myself of five years ago, I would have gone with insecure.

Optimistic <- Pessimistic
"Because she is often in a positive frame of mind, Laura finds it easy to make decisions, and is only rarely hindered by negative feelings or anxiety. However, her optimism may lead her to overestimate her own potential, and makes her liable to misjudgment."

Rebuttal: Yep. Though the overestimation is demonstrated toward other people more than toward myself. I tend to underestimate myself.

Abstract -> Concrete
"Laura is chiefly interested in tangible facts and realistic details. A pragmatic personality, she never loses sight of the utilitarian or practical aspects of things."

Rebuttal: Yep again.

Methodical -> Spontaneous
"Laura's approach to life rarely obeys a predetermined plan; instead, she usually trusts in her ability to improvise or intuit, or her reflexes and innate good timing."

Rebuttal: Well, I can be spontaneous when it comes to my relationship, or weekend entertainment, or what have you. I also have good last-minute firefighting and problem solving abilities. But I have to have goals and plans, short term and long term, or else I worry over the lack of them.

Rational -> Intuitive
"Laura's thought processes rarely follow the laws of logical reasoning or linear thought; instead, they proceed from an overall vision, which is pieced together from more or less obscure and subconscious clues."

Rebuttal: Um, no. Another contradiction of what it said about me in Abstract/Concrete. Facts and plans for me, please.

Analytic <- Synthetic
"Laura's mind is especially perceptive of details. To arrive at a global perception, a vision of the whole, she proceeds gradually, piece by piece, aspect after aspect, in a fairly linear fashion."

Rebuttal: Another flip-flop, contradicting what it *just* said about me being Intuitive. I agree with this one more.

Organized -> Chaotic
"Laura is inclined to be messy and scattered. She is not especially eager to sort things out or arrange them. She likes to be surrounded by her chaos, and usually manages to pluck out what she needs, although she occasionally loses things, and may even lose herself."

Rebuttal: Oh. My. GOD. This is exactly opposite of how I really am. Just look at my desk at work. The neatest one on my floor, I'm sure. All my accounts are in Quicken and I balance my checkbook weekly. I was ecstatic when Calvin built shelves in the pantry so I could organize the kitchen. Yeesh.

Disciplined -> Capricious
"Laura's behavior usually obeys her momentary whims, and she allows herself to be inspired by her imagination or whatever situation arises. Her openness and spontaneity give her the scope to be skillful, ingenious, or shrewd, rising to whatever the immediate circumstances require."

Rebuttal: I can pretty much agree with this one, except for the "momentary whims" part. I don't tend to go off on whims. That doesn't mean I'm not "whimsical", though. Heh.

Constant -> Changeable
"Laura continually needs excitement and action. She is fairly fluctuating and faithless, and may abandon a project or commitment as soon as boredom sets in, to move on to a more exciting experience."

Rebuttal: Wrongo! Again, exact opposite of how I really am.

Okay, so I think we've pretty much established that astrology is a bunch of hooey. Feel free to disagree with my assessment of myself, if I'm being particularly blinded by my opinion of myself. Heh.
