Three Dollars and Forty-Six Cents

Let's play a little game.

What did I spend $3.46 on this morning?

(A) Legg's Comfort Support Pantyhose
(B) Two packages of styrofoam cups
(C) A Rice Krispies Treat and a can of Diet Coke
(D) Fourteen cans of Friskies cat food
(E) One cup of Starbuck's Cafe Mocha that was *supposed* to be good, but wasn't so much.

Long time readers will remember my long time love-hate relationship (documented here, and also here) with Starbucks coffee. Sometimes, like last weekend when Heather and I met up for breakfast and girly talk, the coffee is absolutely perfect. Just the right temperature, just the right mix, and the damn thing is stirred in such a way that I don't get a mouthful of SWEET at the end of the cup.

Then there are times like this morning. I dug in my purse for enough change to buy a Mocha, instead of my usual cup of regular coffee. I stood in line, I waited patiently. I paid my obscene amount of money for sixteen ounces of liquid strained through beans. I got to my desk, took off the lid, and took a sip.

Bitter.

I swirled the cup around, and took another sip. A bit sweeter, this time. Tolerable, if not the heavenly taste experience I was wishing for.

The sips got sweeter and sweeter as I worked my way down the cup, until the final swig which was nothing but a lukewarm swallow of watery chocolate syrup.

Blarg.

Heather sent me an executable file that puts flickering Chile Christmas lights around the edges of my computer screen, bordering whatever program I have open. I love love LOVE it, and forwarded it to the folks in my department. Many of whom installed it on their computers. It put me in such a festive spirit that I even forgave the co-worker who sent me a message saying:

"Chilly lights! Cool!"

Of course, my spirit wasn't so festive that I declined the opportunity to correct his spelling.

Later that day I was attending a meeting, in which a person had hooked their laptop up to a projector in order to share their Powerpoint file. He had the lights on his screen. I wasn't the one who gave him the file. Heh.

Heather is infiltrating AcronymCo.

We're going to see "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" tonight. I pre-purchased tickets on-line last night, and yet we are still going more than an hour early to get in line for seats. I fully anticipate it to 1) be a zoo; and 2) put Calvin in a very foul mood. Crowds and lines and waiting are a VERY bad combination for my boyo.

image from http://www.musingsofviggo.com/I just have to say that Viggo Mortensen (aka Strider, or Aragorn) is my secret boyfriend. Although I was surprised to be a bit disappointed when I saw his junket interview with the local news chickie this morning. He seems to be lacking a personality (though he's an artist as well as a poet, on top of being an actor, and those artsy types can sometimes seem withdrawn). But that's okay. He doesn't have to talk. He can just sit on my bed and look pretty. Grrrrrrrrrrowl.

So, the holiday plans. We're hoping to hook up with AB sometime this weekend, and I am BOUND AND DETERMINED to get to Zoo Lights. I need to make some fudge, and magic cookie bars, and possibly a pie. Maybe some Christmas cookies, but my good intentions of making a slew of those this season went right out the window with the rest of my good intentions for holiday goodies. Oh, and did I mention the amount of wrapping I still have to do? I vow, it will be done by Saturday night. I will NOT be wrapping presents on Christmas Eve.

Monday is the holiday get-together at the Grandparent's, to which I still don't know what food I'm bringing. Fudge, probably, since we usually have an acre left over if I don't take steps to distribute it. Beyond that, maybe a pasta salad? Yet another batch of four-bean salad (this would make three in the past month)?

Tuesday is our traditional holiday lobster dinner, with steak and potato soup and rice pilaf. After that the kids go to their Mom's to spend Christmas Eve, and Calvin and I plan to drag a mattress down in front of the fireplace and... erm... camp out. The kids come back around noon on Christmas Day, we do the gift opening thing, and then Calvin's sister K has invited us to her house for another low-key Christmas celebration. To that I am bringing the same recipe for stuffed mushrooms that I made over Thanksgiving.

We've been over to everyone else's house so often over the past couple of months, we really ought to invite folks over to ours for a change. New Year's, maybe? We're not planning on doing anything but whipping up a bunch of munchies and appetizers, watching TV, dancing around to music and playing pool, and toasting each other. Excessively.
