We decided to get the hell outta Dodge on Friday afternoon, and took one of our overnight trips up to Flagstaff.

384 miles - Chandler to Flagstaff, to Sedona, to Cottonwood, to Jerome, to Prescott, back to Chandler.
Following are a handful of photos from our trip. It was so rich with memory fodder that I’ll be looking back on this weekend fondly for years to come. We stayed at the Hotel Monte Vista in downtown Flagstaff, and walked all over the place. We had beverages at The Lumberyard (ih) and Altitudes (yay!), dinner at Charley’s (steak for him, seared ahi for me), more drinks at the Mad Italian where Amanda’s childhood friend Roxanne is the bar manager, then we hit the Lounge at the Monte Vista and lingered until the crowd got too annoying. The next morning we had the most INCREDIBLE breakfast at this tiny little hole in the wall on San Francisco St whose name escapes me. Then we drove back down to the valley by way of Sedona, Cottonwood, Jerome, and Prescott.
Two memories that I want to write down before I forget – sitting at the bar at the Mad I, a guy sat down next to me, eyed my camera, and said, “Are you an actual photographer, or are you just another chick with a camera?” That one made me chuckle. Then, walking back to the downtown area, I paused on the sidewalk to take a photo. A guy was riding toward us on his bike and as he passed us he hollered, “Lens cap!” I yelled back, “Ha! It’s in my pocket!” His doppler effect “… April Fools!” had us cracking up all the way back to our hotel.
The whole set is here, I’ll be adding more photos to it during the week as I have time.

A crowd dances to the beats of a drum team in Heritage Square. The drummers spread out among the crowd and were lead by the guy in the white hat who had a whistle. It was incredible.

Our room overlooked Aspen Ave and was just above the entrance to the Lounge. The ROWDY Lounge. Bill's taking this shot hanging out the other window in our room.

Absolutely amazing–you’re definitely not “just another chick with a camera!”
I can’t pick out a single favorite–but the picture of the railroad tracks is the most impressive, to me, because of the amazing alignment of the tracks in proportion to their surroundings!
Beautiful work!
Thank you Scott, you’re very kind!
Tiff,
Does Jerome still have its homesteading policy? As best I remember it, if you lived in a place there long enough and improved it enough, you got it free. Is that anywhere near
accurate?
You know? I have no idea. I can see why the land would be free, though, and quite a few properties had that “homestead” feel, if you know what I mean.
I love that blue, blue sky! The sky here is…not so blue.
The sky here is always incredibly blue. Which actually gets old. It’s novel when there’s puffy white clouds – so much so that a lot of people bump into each other cuz they’re looking up. The completely overcast days are just simply a relief to our over-sunned eyes!
Great stuff and looks like a lot of fun! Also, in that picture of you hanging out the window you look, like, 15 years old. How are you not aging?!
Ha. That picture was taken IN THE DARK. Trust me, I’m scary in bright light.
When I get the “another chick with a camera” thing I just say “yep, that’s me”. I told you before when people ask if I’m a photographer I just tell them I’m just a dork with a camera who gets lucky now and again.
Last weekend someone said “Which guy in the band are you with. I know yo’ fine ass gotta be with one of ‘em!’ I’ve been asked that before too and I always answer with “all of them”. This guy wasn’t buying it so I told him I was with “the girl in the band” and he left me alone.
Amazing how walking around with a camera (or sitting behind a video camera) brings out the moron in so many. Hahaha!
I’ve seen FAR too many excellent pictures from you for them all to be chalked up to plain ol’ luck, missy.
Don’t you own an ‘I’m with the band’ t-shirt yet? If not, I’ll get ya one!
