I’m taking a short break from freelance work, and I’m off from school until September. This apparently translates into being in a writerly frame of mind, as evidenced by four entries in five days.

Here’s a tip for you. Never rent a car from an airport location. In order to rent a Jeep Grand Cherokee (or similar) from the Enterprise at the Denver airport, it was going to cost us TWENTY-ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS for the length of time we’d need it (12 days). Oh HELLZ no. After just a teeny bit of searching, I found an Enterprise 20 minutes away from the airport that is renting the same vehicle for the same length of time for $658.97. We’ve just gotta cab it over there and back at the end of the trip. So, say it’s $50 each way. We save $1,340.00. For the price of a cab fare and a little bit of inconvenience.
Worth it, I’d say.

I’ve never seen my husband’s teeth. Is that weird?

We’ve had rain every day for the past three days, and it looks to continue through the next several days as well. It’s monsoon season here in Arizona, and I love it. Big ol’ thunderheads boil up from the south, bringing weirdly colored light (last night it was yellow… with some dirt thrown in). The thunder starts up, and we get some pretty wicked lighting strikes. Since you can see for miles in every direction (well, if you’re not standing in the middle of a subdivision), you can see the weather approaching for a long time, before the spot you’re standing in becomes effected. It’s cool, and surreal.
Mike Olbinski posts a lot of photos of Arizona storms (check out his book, Stormchasing Arizona 2011). He’s an incredibly gifted photographer. This one is one of my favorites. And this one. He does wedding photography too.
Remember how I said that you could see storms coming from miles away? Well, this timelapse demonstrates that in a very real, and kind of scary, way. Go watch it, then TELL me you were just waiting for some sort of alien spaceship to come out of that mess.

I’ve started Season one of Doctor Who. Not THE Season One. The… rebooted? Season One. I remember my younger cousin being a HUGE fan of Doctor Who during the Tom Baker years, but I didn’t get into it then. So if there’s a ton of inside jokes for the long term fans hidden in the current incarnation, I’m oblivious. Which makes me sad, because I LOVE that kind of shit.
I’m watching it for free on my Kindle Fire. The awesomeness just cannot be described in mere words. Here’s a question for you Who fans… has The Doctor ever regenerated as a girl? Also, does anybody have a favorite Doctor? Because I have to say I’m rather enjoying Christopher Eccleston, though I have nothing to compare him to.

We went to this place for dinner last night called Chino Bandido. It’s Chinese Mexican food. Or maybe it’s Mexican Chinese food. Anyway. It defies description. Being the open-minded folks that we are, we followed our bartenders’ enthusiastic recommendations. Bill and I both had a Pollo Diablo burritos, then he had a Machaca Beef Quesadilla and I had Jade Red Chicken. All of it was atop chicken fried rice and refried beans. So, mine was like General Tso’s in a burrito, and Sweet and Sour Chicken on the side. Over refried beans AND fried rice. With snickerdoodles instead of fortune cookies. I mean, that’s weird, right? But it was damn good! Just goes to show that weird little dives can dish up the best food.
Come to find out, it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Go figure.
