In March 2003 I went to the bookstore, and I picked up a book that was of some interest to me. But something about it seemed familiar, and I spent a good fifteen minutes trying to figure out if I had actually read the book before. I left it, and purchased two others I was sure of, but that lack of recall nagged at me.

Hence the Reading List. Plus, it'll be fun to make Calvin groan in disgust at how many books I've actually read (update: actually, as of the moment of this writing, he's calling me a nerd). So, I'll add to this as I read, and as I recall other books that I've already read. The date I read the book is in parenthesis. No parenthesis means I don't remember. I'm only including books I've read in their entirety. Oh, and I'm not going to include things like text books or cook books or anything like that - no sense in getting anal with all this, now is there?

In reality, I have no idea how many books I've read in my life - thousands, I'm positive. And I've read a whole lot of the books on this list multiple times, especially the ones by Ann McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey, Laurell Hamilton, Jean Auel, Susan Cooper, L.M. Montgomery, and Tad Williams. Favorite authors are like comfort food and a down comforter on a cold winter day.

• A book about a boy going caving by himself, and getting trapped inside when his light goes out. ("All the Dark Places" by J. Allen Bosworth)
• A book about a boy who can transfer his consciousness into the minds of animals. In the end, he gets kicked in the head by a horse while his mind is in another animal, and is trapped outside of his dead body.
• A book about a boy living in a country occupied by Hitler during WWII. He smuggles gold past the German soldiers on skis, hiding it in a cave (?). (Found it! "Snow Treasure" by Marie McSwigan)
• I read this one recently - a book about four girls hired to work a farm in England during WWII. ("The Land Girls" by Angela Huth - found the name while reading an old entry)
• I read this one recently, too - a book about a man living alone, who is visited by a ghost of a child that is manifested as real. She moves in with him and "grows up" over the course of a summer to experience what she missed by not getting to live. I think she was the victim of a shipwreck? (I remembered - "Island of Ghosts" by Gillian Bradshaw)

• A book about the girl who grows up in a minister's house - her dead mother's relatives? She originally lived with her grandmother, then moved. Her father is abusive? In jail?
