August 2002 Storyteller Collaboration Mailbox by Sabine N. Dear Jay: Your Dad and I miss you. We anxiously await a letter from you. Please let us know how you are enjoying camp. We'll see you Labour Day weekend. Love, M+D Dear M+D: Camp sucks. I'm covered in mosquito bites. I hate the other boys. I'm thinking of breaking out if you don't come and get me right away. Love, Jay Dear Jay: You have to give camp a chance. Share your candy with the other boys and they'll be nicer to you. You're there to enjoy your summer. You are so lucky. When we were your age we didn't get this chance. Be patient. Everything will work out. Love, M+D Dear M+D: It's been 2 weeks and things are a little better. The food still sucks but last week Tom + I managed to shoot some squirrel which we cooked over an open fire with spices we got from the mess tent (that's our way of saying kitchen). The games are a joke but Tom + I are able to have fun ourselves. We stole a boat yesterday and went to the girl's camp. It was much nicer. See you Labour Day. Love, Jay Dear Jay: We see how your imagination is working overtime. Next you'll be telling us you shot a bear all by yourself. Anyway, we are glad your mood has lifted and that you are beginning to enjoy yourself. We're also pleased you've made a friend. I hope the boat trip was a safe one. Love, M+D Dear M+D: I can't believe it's almost Labour Day. It sucks to think about school starting again. Tom hates school just as much as I do. He wants to own a gas station when he grows up. I'd like to be a mechanic. We both already know enough about everything that we need. This morning we went fishing and had trout for breakfast while the other suckers had to eat cereal. I'm going to live it up as this is my last week. Love, Jay Dear Jay: So would you like us to sign you up for the same camp next year since you have really grown to like it? Pre-bookings are allowed especially for those who've already been. Let us know. We're so glad you are happy. See you, Son! Love M+D Dear M+D: Ok, you can sign me up. But this time, can we take the tent and set up camp at Tom's house? They have a trampoline. Love, Jay |
